My Sparkle

What sparkles in your life?

The world has enough bad in it. We need more good, more smiles, more sparkle. I started this little blog to hopefully bring a little more light into the world. In every dark situation, there is always a silver lining. I'm hoping to help people find it.

I want everyone to be able to find them sparkles.

A New Year, A New Intention

Friends, we made it. Made it into a new month, a new year, a new decade. I have, for less than ideal reasons, had a lot of time for reflection. The last couple of years have been challenging, 2019 especially. My health was poor. I had to say goodbye to a few loved ones, two of them within a day of each other. I was tested in many ways and at times, felt nearly broken. After the difficulties with my health in 2018, I set the intention that 2019 was going to be my year. I was looking forward to healing and getting on with everyday life. Turns out, 2019 was worse. I suffered a flare up that put me in the hospital in March. I received the necessary treatment and began to improve and I believed my healing could start again but unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Farewell, 2018. Hello, 2019!

Dear 2018, I'll get straight to the point. I'm breaking up with you. It's not me, it's definitely you.  When you came into my life, I had high hopes for us. There were fireworks. There was celebration. You came in with a bang. Things were great in the beginning. You were so shiny, new, and exciting. However, as time went on, you suddenly changed. You became incredibly difficult. For whatever reason, you didn't want to be kind anymore. Even through all of our troubles, I tried to remain hopeful, tried to give you the benefit of the doubt but you still kept trying to break me down. You almost had me at one point but I refused to give in. I decided that I wasn't going to let you crush my spirit any longer.  With the help of some really amazing people — family, friends, and doctors — we made a plan. Where It Begins

For years, I struggled with my own negativity. I sought out the worst in every situation and I believe it manifested an illness within me. In 2014, I was diagnosed with Lupus. In the months leading up to my diagnosis, I was tired, achey, sick and just plain miserable. It took everything out of me, and my negativity was only making it worse. It wasn't until I was given a name for what was happening with my body that I had an "aha!" moment. Stress and negativity wore my body down, so I decided that stress and negativity didn't deserve a place in my life. Something changed within me and I realized that the things that most of us stress over aren't actually worth the energy we give them. From that moment, I decided I needed to stop worrying about things I could not control and I learned so much.
